The HCG Diet

The HCG Diet most commonly refers to the protocol that British physician Dr. Simeon identified in the mid-1950s. He discovered that when administered daily, HCG patients could maintain their health through a low calorie diet. When on a low calorie diet without HCG, patients became irritable, had hunger cravings, weakness, and/or headaches.

The use of HCG in a diet will dispose of the abnormal fat first, which will allow for a visual transformation of the body. It also helps to correct the patient's metabolism which in turn will help the patient from gaining the weight back once off a restricted diet. However, in order to maintain a healthy weight after a weight loss program, one must continue to have a well balanced diet.

Dr Simeon's protocol requires you to eat fruit, vegetables and meat, fish or poultry. As with any diet your success is dependent on how closely you abide by the diet plan and consume only food and portion sizes allowed.

HCG is a dietary approach not to be taken lightly. It takes hard work and dedication. Our base package includes the bear minimum you need to get through the 21days. If you do feel you need additional treatments then you can book these accordingly.

HCG Diet Phases

Days 1 & 2

Start oral, sublingual HCG drops (7 drops under the tongue morning and night) and begin high fat, high calorie diet. This is an essential step in resetting the body's fat regulating system. Do not eat or drink anything 15 minutes before or after taking the drops.
 

Days 3-21 ( or 42 )

Continue HCG drops that are now triggering the body to release stored fat as "food" for the body and supplement with the low calorie diet. The burned fat is providing a constant flow of fuel so you won't feel hungry as pounds & inches melt away.

Maintenance Phase

Stop HCG diet drops after 21 days but maintain 500 calories a day for 3 days while the body rids itself of all the HCG. The body's fat regulation system is now adjusted. Slowly increase caloric intake over 3 weeks, while stabilizing your new weight, avoiding sugar and starch as much as possible during this period.

500 Calorie a day Diet Plan

Breakfast: Tea or coffee in any quantity without sugar. Only one tablespoonful of milk allowed in 24 hours. Xylotiol or Stevia may be used.

Lunch:

  • 100 grams of veal, beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, or prawns (garlic prawns are great - not butter or oil though)
  • All visible fat must be carefully removed before cooking, and the meat must beweighed raw. It must be boiled or grilled without additional fat.
  • Salmon, eel,tuna, herring, dried or pickled fish are not allowed.
  • Chicken breast must beremoved
  • 3 egg whites & 1 egg with yolk can be substituted for a protein once or twice a week.

 

  • add on to lunch
  • One type of vegetable only to be chosen from the following: spinach, beet-greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes,cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage.

inbetween snacks

  • One breadstick (grissino) or one Melba toast (1 serve per day)
  • An apple, orange, or a handful of strawberries or one-half grapefruit (2 serves per day)

 

Dinner

The same four choices as lunch (above.)

Drinks

  • Water at least 2 litres a day,
  • Tea (any kind) or coffee in any quantity without sugar.
  • Only 1 Tablespoon of milk allowed in a 24 hour period. Stevia may be used as asweetener. Green tea is also great to help with energy and even helps to burn more fat.

 

  • Seasonings, etc. The juice of one lemon is allowed for all purposes and recommended to alkalize the body.
  • Sea Salt (include it in your diet everyday), pepper, vinegar, mustard, garlic,
  • sweet basil, parsley, thyme, chives, cilantro, etc. may be used for seasoning. NO oil,
  • butter, sugar or dressing.


Miscellaneous:

  • You may eat the breadstick and fruit as a snack in between meals instead of with your meals if you choose.
  • No over the counter non-prescription drugs should be taken (with the exception of Aspirin).
  • No cosmetics other than lipstick, eyebrow pencil and facial powder should be used.
  • No creams, lotions or moisturizers that contain fat should be used. (Check the ingredient list. It is not safe to use if it contains “oil” or anything ending in “-ose”)
  • You must eat everything as prescribed. Do not skip meals or leave out one of the food groups.
  • Only Thai massage is allowed. No massages of any other type
  • Food is sweetened with Stevia, an all-natural, sugar-free sweetener.


Light Exercise

It is recommended that you do only light exercise while doing the HCG Diet. Walking, Yoga ,Pilates, lighter weight lifting (resistance) is great to keep up your strength. Stay away from high calorie burning exercises (ex. Running, aerobics). Over exercising will cause the body to go into starvation mode and hold on to the fat, fighting against the HCG.

Keep Track of Weight

It is important to weigh yourself and keep track of your success. You will want to weigh yourself when you first get up in the morning (the same clothing attire every time) after you have emptied your bladder.
 

The Maintenance Phase (this is most important after all your hard work)

The maintenance phase in the HCG diet comes after we have completed our goal for HCG whether it follows the 21 day or 42 day program. The purpose of the maintenance phase is to restore the metabolism and balance in the body and prevent any circumstance that the body will gain the weight back.

 The maintenance phase lasts 3 weeks long and it is a crucial part of the diet in order to be successful with HCG. With-out the maintenance phase the weight gain will be uncontrollable after we are off the diet. When the last day of the diet drops expire then it is said that you can eat whatever you want which is true except you must avoid foods that have sugar and starch.

During the three week time frame it is imperative to have a scale with you and make sure to find a time every day to weigh yourself. It takes about 3 weeks for the weight to stabilize and cease fluctuation. During this period you must realise that carbohydrates, such as sugar, bread, rice, potatoes, pastries, etc, are to be avoided at all costs. If no carbohydrates whatsoever are eaten, fats can be indulged in somewhat more liberally and even small quantities of alcohol, such as a glass of wine with meals, does no harm, but as soon as fats and starch are combined things are very likely to get out of hand. This has to be observed very carefully during the first 3 weeks after the treatment is ended otherwise disappointments are almost sure to occur.

When you end your last day of taking the drops you must remain on the 500 calorie intake diet for 3 more days before increasing your calories to allow time for the HCG to get out of the system. When you start the 4th day you are welcome to increase your calorie intake to 1500 for the remainder of the maintenance phase. It is not recommended to have any more than 1500 at this time. You can also pick up on an exercise routine since now you have a sufficient amount of calories to support the new food intake for the diet.


Bear in mind, your weight will fluctuate the first week or two, this is normal. Do a steak, fish, or chicken day if you need to. The weight will eventually stabilise and cease to fluctuate. Watch the starch and sugar very carefully during the 3 weeks. Eat as many organic foods as possible. Eat whatever you want, without starch or sugar, during the maintenance phase. Make sure you are eating enough. Use healthy fats and dairy products to up your calorie intake if necessary. Drink enough water.

 

FAQs

1. What is HCG and how does it work?
The diet drops are normally used in women to produce a hormone to support hormone deficiencies. HCG is known to suppress hunger and when used in conjunction with a 500 calorie diet it turns into a fat burning mechanism inside the body, without any deterioration of muscle.

2. Is HCG safe?
HCG is extremely safe, there are no current side effects of the drug.

3. If HCG works so well for weight loss, why don't pregnant women lose weight?
Because HCG mobilizes fat to be used in other parts of the body where needed during pregnancy. When a women is pregnant they also sustain a high calorie diet in most cases. HCG only works for weight loss in conjunction with the 500 calorie diet.

4. Will my metabolism slow down if I'm on a very low calorie diet?
When calories are cut back significantly the body will store the fat and then the metabolism will lower. As a result the fat is then used as energy and burned out of our system when the energy is exhausted. It is quite a natural process and has no negative effect to the body.

5. Wouldn't I lose the same amount of weight eating a very low calorie diet without HCG?
Typically yes you would, however the hcg drops support the strength of muscle tissue while your body intakes 500 calories per day. In normal circumstances the muscle would go first then the fat would follow when going on a low calorie. The homeopathic drops helps to produce hormones to sustain muscle and use the fat as energy instead. A low calorie diet without homeopathic drops would result in making it easier to gain the weight back rather than sustaining it.

6. The HCG diet is very low calorie, will I get hungry?
Surprisingly no, this is one of the few diets that don't leave you craving more food. The reason behind it is because you calories used to be the source of energy you exhausted and when you were calorie deficient you felt hungry. Now that your body can turn to the fat as a source of energy it naturally suppresses your appetite.

7. Will HCG interfere with any medications I am currently taking? What about birth control pills?
HCG does not interfere with any medications whatsoever, including birth control, or any prescription drugs.

8. Will I experience any changes in my menstrual cycle taking HCG?
The dosage is too small to change anything in the menstrual cycle, again, there are no side effects.

9. How much weight can I expect to lose on the program?
The average comes to about 1lbs. per day over an extended period of time. Most will lose 2 lbs. a day
in their first week.

10. Does the weight loss slow down after the first month?
The largest amount of weight is lost in the first month, yes. After the first month some may experience a plateau effect where a day or two on the scale doesn't change. DO NOT PANIC! This is normal, the body is currently losing inches and the spikes in drops will pick up again. It's a natural effect of the body trying to take moments to use your calories for energy also.

11. What works better the oral (sublingual HCG) or the injectable?
Reports show that 9/10 people say no difference between either one. The only difference is that when taken orally you must never eat or drink within 15 minutes before or after taking the drops. It must have a solid amount of time to absorb under the tongue to prove effective.

12. Which is better the once a week HCG injections you get at the clinic or the self administrated ones done at home?
There is no difference, this would be more of your own personal preference.

Top 4 Reasons For Failure With the HCG Diet
#4 - Cheating! Simply put, it's cheating on the diet. What if your intake of calories was 700 instead of 500? Even though it is such a small amount what this forces your body to do is now that you are producing 700 calories your body shifts to start pulling your energy from your calories again. The whole purpose of the HCG diet is to shift the bodies' efforts to pull your energy from stored fat deposits. Even if you're just slightly above the 500 calorie intake then it will change the source on where the body will pull its energy from.
#3- The wrong types of calories and proteins. When on the HCG diet we commonly see the word protein and immediately think steak, pork, beef, and other meats high in fat content. While it is ok to have these in extremely small rations it should not be looked at as a main course because of the volume of fat content found in these types of meats. When thinking of main courses for proteins in our meals, fish, chicken, and lean types of beef become much better and healthier method along with providing our bodies an easier job to burn the stored fat we are trying to lose.
#2- Constipation. One of the most common side effects of the HCG diet is constipation. When we don't lose weight for several days and we aren't using the bathroom as often this could be to blame and it is recommended that while on the HCG diet that natural colon cleansing methods are applied regularly to promote the body to pass our stools
#1 - Lack of consistency, whether it be with taking our HCG diet drops or calorie intake. This is probably one of the most common reasons of people not to lose weight on the HCG diet. When the menu calls for a 1 serving of vegetables, 1 serving of fruit, and a protein we often substitute other foods to fill in for the ones we don't want. Or we succumb to our temptations and substitute another fruit instead of the vegetable. The body demands a specific balance and any deficiency will force the body to pull its energy from other sources. For example, fruits have a large amount of natural sugar. If we double up on the natural amount of sugar then the body will begin to shift to pull our energy from that source, as a result our body will burn through it very quickly and then as a result we will start to get hungry, and
our body will demand a higher intake of calories. Our body while on the HCG diet is in a state of deficiency, if the balance is knocked off even just a little bit for one day, it can throw off the results by a large amount for days to come. 

Do's and Don'ts

Do’s

  • Do take a good multi-vitamin/mineral with potassium (or take separately). Make sure all vitamins are NOT fat soluble. No fish oils, vit E or A. We recommend you buy high quality products. They will help with energy and regularity.
  • Drink lots of water
  • Do light exercise.

Don’ts

  • Do not use lotion, oils or lubricants. This includes oil based cosmetics. – Fats, oils, creams, lotions and ointments applied to the skin are absorbed and interfere with weight reduction by HCG just as if they had been eaten. The body will stop burning fat and digest these oils instead. Stay away from these while on this program. Mineral oil (baby oil) may be used if needed. Lipsticks and powders are fine. Oil free foundation or mineral powder is a good substitute. Oil free lotions are a great alternative. Not abiding by this can stall weight loss for 1-3 days.
  • Don’t add any foods of any kind that are not on the food list.
  • No Sugar! Read all your labels on seasonings and food. No sugar or starch.
  • No gums or mints
  • No diet drinks (diet sodas, diet/sugar-free powdered drinks)
  • No butter, oil or dressing

Plateau Breakers (if weight loss slows)
1. Increase water intake
2. Try adding a glass or 2 of green tea to your day
3. Don’t eat 2 apples for the 2 fruits or cut down apple size
4. Cut beef down or out
5. Check all condiments for any form of sugar.
6. If mixing vegetables, stop. 
7. If having trouble with constipation please visit petries cottage for some gentle laxatives.
8. Leave out one or both breadsticks/melba toast
9. Stop eating out.
