ALBIZIA

Actions: Antiallergic, hypocholesterolaemic
Indications: Hay fever, Asthma, Dermatitis, Urticaria, Hypercholesterolaemia (possible benefit)

ANDROGRAPHIS

Actions: Immune enhancing, heptoprotective, choleretic (helps stimulate the liver to increase output of bile), anthelminitic.
Indications: Acute infections – viral, bacterial or parasitic; Chronic infections, Infection preventions, Infective hepatitis, Intestinal worms, Liver insufficiency, digestive weakness, Flatulence, Immune support in asthma.
Safety: Best avoided in the first trimester of pregnancy.

ASTRAGALUS

Actions: Immune enhancing, tonic, adaptogen, cardiotonic, hypotensive diuretic
Indications: Chronic infections, Infection prevention, Night sweats, chronic immune deficiency, poor immunity, Debility, fatigue, Leukopaenia, Chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, post-viral syndromes, Mild congestive cardiac failure, bronchiectasis, During chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cancer, Organ prolapse, HIV/AIDS, angina pectoris

BETH ROOT

Indications: Menorrhagia, metrorrhagia; Post-partum haemorrhage; Dysfunctional uterine bleeding; Leucorrhoea (as a douche)
Safety: Saponins may cause or aggravate gastro-oesophageal reflux

BLACK COHOSH

Actions: Oestrogen modulating, uterine tonic, spasmolytic, antirheumatic
Indications: Menopausal symptoms; Spasmodic dysmenorrhoea, premenstrual syndrome; Osteoarthritis (especially small joint), rheumatoid arthritis; To prepare for labour; Myalgia; Tinnitus
Safety: Contraindicated during pregnancy (except in the last few weeks to assist with birth); Controversial in breast cancer

BLADDERWRACK

Actions:    Antiobesity, thyroid stimulant
Indications:    Hypothyroidism, subclinical or clinical obesity (associated with poor thyroid activity); Osteoarthritis (in association with obesity)
Safety:    Contraindicated in hyperthyroidism.  Caution during pregnancy and lactation.

BLUE COHOSH

Actions:    Spasmolytic, uterine and ovarian tonic, emmenagogue, oxytocic
Indications:    To assist with labour; Spasmodic dysmenorrhoea; Ovarian pain; Uterine prolapse; Secondary amenorrhoea; Endometriosis
Safety:    Contraindicated in early pregnancy and lactation.  Use in late pregnancy should only be undertaken by experience clinicians
