Following my last blog... lets find out which foods are important for shrinking your waistline.

There are so many “diets” out there and “diet” has many meanings; therefore I prefer to talk about lifestyle changes include healthy eating. We all know what is good for us and more importantly what foods that we should not be eating, often just by looking at it.  There are raw food diets, i quit sugar diets, clean eating and the crazy diets that I don’t even want to mention. Go back to basics.

When looking after your health you want to eat foods that give you energy whilst increasing your blood sugar levels slowly and evenly. Not that afternoon chocolate bar pick me up. You will feel just as tied 10 mins later – reach for some nuts

Fish – If one of your goals is fat loss than the great benefits of regular fish intake is important. It is easily digested and because of the protein intake gives you that ‘full’ feeling.  Chilli, herbs, spices, lemon and limes are great to add to any fish recipe.

Berries – I love adding frozen berries to my smoothie every morning. They are high in anti-oxidants, low glycemic and benefit your immune system as high in vitamin C. Also a great frozen treat  for kids when they get home from school on a summers day – add some macadamia nuts and you have a great little snack.

Fresh greens – Greens are know to alkalize your body and push it into fat burning. Kale, rocket, spinach are all great greens to have everyday. If you don’t like a certain green trade it for another one – there are plenty to choose from.  Some people love to juice there greens to get the daily amount in. If you don’t like your greens there are numerous superfood green supplements I can recommend.

Coconut oil – great in cooking as it has handles heat very well. It also has themogenic  qualities which increases your body’s ability to burn fat and boost your metabolism. Dont use too much as more is not necessarily better – 1-2 tsps is enough whilst cooking.

Ginger – The first thing that comes to mind is how good ginger is for digestion and circulation. It is great in juices and also a slice in hot water as a tea alternive... yum.

Chilli – think themogenisis as chilli is great for boosting your metabolism and increasing fat burning.

Whole grains – Fibre fibre fibre – keeps you satisfied for longer. If you want to keep your colon healthy eat plenty of fibre.   Small of portions of whole grains like quiona and brown rice will give your body fibre .

Eggs – I love eggs especially those fresh from my chooks. Eggs are a great source of protein and essential fatty acids. I quick snack is to boil some eggs and eat them whole or add them to a salad for some extra energy.

Healthy food is important to everyday healthy living and vitality. If you are aware of what you eat you will have plenty of energy and keep burning that fat.
